Spring Break Safety

Friday March 31, 2006
A recent Hotels.com survey of spring breakers 18-22 told the rest of America what you already know: that you're looking for "a cool hotel" near shopping and action activities this spring break. Roger that. And in a story titled, "Girls Gone ... Wise!", the survey also wraps up a few views on spring break safety, particularly for women: six out of ten (64 percent) student travelers said they were more concerned about safety when traveling than they were several years ago, with almost one in four reporting that they "think about safety all the time" during spring break, and sixty two percent of female respondents reported that they now make more of a point to talk with their friends about spring break safety than in previous years.

Stay safe, but don't stay home

Perhaps the disappearance of American student Natalee Holloway in Aruba during a high school graduation trip has something to do with gal pal safety confabs pre-break, or perhaps you're just thinking smart before you hit the road. It's true that women travelers need to exercise special care when traveling, but don't let safety concerns keep you from traveling where and when you want to -- spring break is a great time to get a taste of what the whole travel thing is all about. Be prepared and savvy, and be ready to enjoy.
