"Glimpse" Student Travel Photo Contest Opens
Tuesday April 11, 2006
Pull out those snaps you took as an au pair or on your foreign homestay -- they could earn you travel in the Glimpse Foundation's third annual photo contest, "It’s All in the Family," open to anyone who's lived or traveled abroad. Twelve winning photos depicting family life around the world will be featured in the Glimpse 2007 calendar and the grand prize pic taker will receive a $500 travel voucher from STA Travel student travel agency.
The non-profit Glimpse Foundation promotes itself as providing cross-cultural understanding through the experiences of college-age travelers living and studying abroad; contest entries, Glimpse’s Editor in Chief, Kerala Goodkin, says, will “move beyond your standard images of
tourist hotspots and attractions, and really offer a flavor for the daily realities of life in other countries."
Eleven runners-up take home a Rough Guide music CD and will see their photos headline one month in the calendar, which will be sold in bookstores and at Glimpse Online. Submission deadline is May 22. Bookmark the contest site at GlimpseFoundation.org for next year, too -- opportunities like these are a part of the reason you take photos when you travel. Not only do you want to remember your trip, but chances exist, like this one, to share what you saw with fellow and future student travelers. The Glimpse Foundation also sponsors an annual student travel writing contest with a November deadline offering literary reknown in the publication, "Glimpse Quarterly," the bulk of which is written by students studying abroad, and a $500 travel voucher from STA as the winner's fame and fortune. Regular or periodic contributors are always welcome at Glimpse -- join the database and start writing. You'll be notified of contribution possibilities, including writing and photography contests. Good luck!
