Arrest Made in Natalee Holloway Disappearance

Monday April 17, 2006
Aruban police have arrested a local 19-year-old beach patroller in connection with the May, 2005, disappearance of American teen Natalee Holloway, according to April 17 press wire reports. Holloway vanished on the last night of a high school graduation trip to the popular Caribbean island.

Holloway's disappearance created a small backlash in the student travel industry as parents and students questioned the safety of organized trips, such as the one Holloway's Alabama classmates were taking. An FBI spokesman said last spring that cases in which Americans vanish on school or group trips abroad are rare.

Three other Arubans have been detained in the Holloway case in past months, with no charges filed.
