Mexico Drug Bill Downed
Tuesday May 9, 2006
Mexico president Vincente Fox, longtime supporter of global drug decriminalization, has recently decided against signing a bill decriminalizing possession of small amounts of currently illegal drugs, like marijuana, in Mexico; the Mexican senate had already passed the bill. The UK Guardian writes that Fox has bowed to pressure from the US, which "...fears that decriminalisation could encourage Amsterdam-style drug tourism from the thousands of young Americans who visit Mexican resorts such as Cancun and Acapulco each year." A lot of people are speaking for you -- what do you think?

Poll question: Had drugs been decriminalized in Mexico, would you have been more or less likely to travel there?
- It would have kept me away from Mexico
- It would have caused me to plan a trip to Mexico
- It wouldn't have affected my travel plans
