Mexico lawmakers again discussing drug decriminalization
Thursday June 15, 2006
According to the Associated Press, lawmakers in Mexico, where the Senate passed a bill in April decriminalizing the carrying of small amounts of drugs which was vetoed by prexy Vincente Fox after US outcry, are again discussing the possible legalization of certain drugs, like marijuana and peyote, in order to free up police for biggger drug fry. US columnists and politicians harshly criticized the original legislation, saying it would cause young Americans to flock to Mexico for "Amsterdam-style drug tourism." A subsequent Student Travel poll showed that, should the country decriminalize drugs, less than 1/4 of readers would plan a trip to Mexico solely for that reason.
