Power-ful Airport Wifi Wiki

Wednesday August 2, 2006
Check out a cool new wiki to find out where the plugs and wifi are waiting at a few airports, last bastions of outrageously overpriced airtime: blogger Jeff Sandquist put together the Airpower page after spending some delayed-flight time at the Minneapolis airport. Add what you know about places to plug in (as in laptops) and play (as in wifi) in global airports. Travel wifi is steadily getting easier if you want to pay to play or borrow -- airports, though, are slow getting the message, and the bigger the airport, the worse the wifi cost, in my experience; I'm tickled to see airports like Albuquerque's Sunport have free wifi throughout... maybe recalcitrant giants like Chicago's O'Hare and London's Heathrow will follow suit.

My favorite tip from the Aipower wiki: "If you're having trouble find(ing) a power outlet in the airport you're at, just look for airport personnel vacuuming." Instant visions of skulking around airport nether regions clutching a power cord. Maybe in a trenchcoat. Hey, wait: I've done that in hotels, clutching an open laptop...
