Camping Wifi

Tuesday August 29, 2006
Campground wifi -- what a concept. Camping means getting away from it all for some, but it's also just a great, budget way to stay in the US of A or worldwide. Luxury campgrounds that cost $25-$50/night, like KOA, mean sort of getting away without leaving it all behind -- and at those prices, we want our wifi. In the back of beyond? Naw, won't be backpacking my laptop. You can find campground wifi, though, if you're car camping in Argentina or Arkansas.

I blogged about camping in a Harper's Ferry KOA campground in June, where I found the wifi although I had to sit in front of the office doors to get it (Road Trip Wonders: West Virginia), and wifi guy Koos van den Hout posted a comment with a great worldwide camping wifi link. I stayed in a few KOA campgrounds on that US road trip, and they can be spendy, though they've got amenities galore. KOA's proffer pools and BBQ areas, kids' areas and laundry and, yep, sometimes the wifi; pictured at right is a Pennsylvania KOA cabin priced about $35.
