RyanAir Changing Baggage Limits
Wednesday November 1, 2006
Cheap European airfare ruler, Ryanair, is decreasing its checked baggage limit from 20kg to 15kg -- that's about 33 pounds -- today (November 1) after increasing the limit March 16 and the cost for checked bags on September 1. If you want to check more than one bag beginning today, expect to pay £7 per bag, or £3.50 per bag if you pay online in advance, and pay £5.50/kg for any bags weighing more than 15kg.
Ryanair does what it does well -- cheap cheap flights to off-the-beaten-path European airports -- but since Ryanair's baggage rules have changed frequently just this year, check the website's clearly stated baggage limits when you buy your tickets, or potentially pay plenty for mistakes. Budget Euro carriers like easyJet and Flybe will also charge you for a checked bag as well as fining for excess poundage, though weight limits are more generous than those of Ryanair. Key to cutting any confusion: read the rules when you buy your ticket and weigh your packed bag at the airport to avoid fines for excess weight.
