Difference Between Travel Warnings and Public Announcements

Fiji's military leader has declared a state of emergency on the South Seas island, and the US Department of State issued a travel public announcement for the country on 12/01. Travel public announcements are issued because of short-term conditions which may pose "significant risks to the security of American travelers," according to the government website. Public announcements are milder than travel warnings, in which the State Department recommends that Americans avoid travel to a country altogether. Regardless, have a care if headed that way, travelers.
