Sleeping in Airports and Other Travel Drags

Saturday December 23, 2006
Two of the world's larger air hubs, Denver International Airport and London's Heathrow, had some major disruptions in flight schedules this week -- that's airport spokespeak for a real mess. I talked with some travelers stranded at Denver's airport by the major snow dumped on the Rockies, and one confirmed news reports when he said that he saw "hundreds" of people camped out and "thousands" of unclaimed bags at the airport. If I had to sleep at DEN (Denver's airport), I'd choose a couch in the main terminal (noisy, but semi-comfy); at LHR (Heathrow), I'd choose Terminal 3, where a few benches can be found.

The second pressing problem would be wifi -- I've tried to find free wifi in both airports without luck, but the cool AirPower Wiki is a tool I've been using before travel to find wifi and electrical plugs in airports.

And the unclaimed bag thing? My very first thought is that new UK, EU and US airport rules requiring us to check most liquids and gels of any real volume would mean losing wine I would be carrying as gifts were I to lose bags over the holiday. Try to avoid losing your luggage with a few tips -- and if your bags do go missing, find out what to do:
