Tiger Air Bringing New Budget Air to Australia
Monday February 12, 2007
The budget airline picture is getting interesting in Oz -- no sooner did we recommend Qantas-backed Australian budget airline, Jetstar, than we saw some news you can use: Tiger Air, already a top dog in the cheap Asian air world, plans to debut domestic Australian budget air service by late 2007 in the style of Ryanair, king of backpacker budget airfares in Europe. Ryanair, which recently expanded its wildly successful European air model to the Mexico budget airlines scene, offers cheap seats to off-the-beaten-path airports, no frills and plenty of frequently changing fine print. Presumably Tiger Air will do the same with its new operation slated to land at as yet unkown, but definitely out-of-the-way, Australian airports in 2007. If your travels are taking you down under later this year, remember to compare Tiger tix with cool Brit airline Virgin's Aussie arm, Virgin Blue, as well as Qantas's Jetstar (which, btw, is having a two-fer sale right this minute).

We had a dreadful experience with Tiger Airways. I have a long story to tell, but briefly - others should know of the disgusting treatment we received at their hands, so that they may think twice before dealing with them. In short – if you have a problem with Tiger, even one that they are entirely responsible for - you are on your own. They have no support like other airlines and don’t refund easily or compensate. They are an absolute disgrace. If you have a good experience with them and clearly some people do – you should consider yourself lucky.
