Credit Cards Get Easier for Students
Wednesday February 21, 2007
As a student, you may have found it difficult, if not downright impossible, to get a traditional credit card -- that's okay, as debit cards attached to your checking account are a great choice for travel. Credit cards have their place, though -- emergency airlifts out of Nepal, for instance. A new development in the fiinancial world, the FICO expansion score, essentially means it's easier for students to get some credit, as in credit cards (though not heavy credit, like home loans), according to About's Financial Planning Guide. As opposed to a debit card, you've got to make payments on a credit card: you're essentially being loaned the money you spend on a credit card. You can often handle credit card payments on the internet while traveling, but if you go the credit card route and want to deal with your statements and payments by mail, set up an international snail mail address before you leave.
