Lighters to Take Flight Again
Monday July 23, 2007
The TSA has made a change in the US's ultra-strict airport security rules that tightened drastically after a suspected terrorist plot in London was publicized last August: starting August 4, 2007, breast milk in quantities / containers larger than three ounces (what's that about?) is permitted, and lighters are now okay to carry on board planes in or flying to the US (they've always been, and continue to be, okay everywhere else in the world). Too late for a certain Swiss Army compass/lighter beauty we got in Switzerland and lost to airport security in Denver, and for the rest of the up-to 39,000 lighters a day that have gone into the TSA maw since March, 2005, when they were banned. How many landfills could and did those lighters clog?
