The season for backpack travel in Europe is fast approaching, and we're taking a look over the next few months at what you might need to know and do before you go and when you get there.
Chances are good you won't get robbed abroad if you're taking normal safety precautions. However, having a bit of emergency backup cash stashed can be crucial to travel peace of mind (unless, like me on my first several solo trips, one's security system is to wedge extra twenty dollar bills in one's sock, which -- trust me -- just makes one worry that they're working themselves to the sock's top preparatory to falling out on a sidewalk).
Money belts are one tried and true way to hide your bucks while out and about, one famous traveler has designed his own theft-proof pants pocket for keeping a credit card safe on the road, and some ingenious women sew pockets in safe spots where muggers might not wish to fish. i put my money inside my bra cup. its the safest way i know. just have to avoid tight fitting jerseys.
