Drinking Ages Worldwide
Monday February 4, 2008
Sloshing around the world is far less a part of student travel than some -- ahh -- older folks may think, but it is sometimes something to think about when planning spring break
since, in some sunny climes, the clubs can be a big part of the scene. I know almost no folks of any age who've ever been carded abroad when doing something like having wine with dinner, but your id may be requested by some burly bouncer-type in major clubs during spring break in touristy spots like Rosarito Beach, Mexico (drinking age: 18). In most clubs abroad, though, your general look is more what's going to be checked at the door. If imbibing on sunny shores is the main focus of your spring break and you don't plan to get a passport before break, note that Puerto Rico's drinking age is a reasonable 18, even though the Caribbean island is a US territory (no passport needed).
