Russian Travel - Go Now?

If travel to Russia is on your eventual agenda, note that, despite the conflict in neighboring Georgia, Russian travel expert Kerry Kubilius says you might want to travel now; Kerry says worries about the future of Russian travel are "...not necessarily ill-founded" in view of recent-past politics in that country, and reminds wannabe travelers that Russia "...can simply close its doors to a certain set of visitors" at any time Russian powers that be want to -- and US President George Bush, who backs Georgia, got "decidedly confrontational" toward Russia last week, intimating intimidation and saying "...a contentious relationship with America is not in Russia's interests." Although Russia and Georgia have signed a ceasefire agreement, relations between the US and Russia could certainly get decidedly messier in the future. As for Eastern Europe, do know that the US guv has issued a travel warning for the country of Georgia, and do know how to get out of trouble if you get too near it. A travel warning anywhere near your destination indicates unrest that necessitates particular attention to safety and means you should consider registering with the US embassy in that area.
