Weird and Wacky Festivals Worldwide

Friday March 27, 2009
I'm loving the latest blog carnival here at About.com: Weird and Wacky Travel Experiences, a global compilation of crazy carnivals, fantastic festivals, and unconventional (to me) conventions (like the exceedingly interesting Pushkar Camel Fair in India, which is on my must-attend-someday list). Enjoy the research -- as James Martin, About.com's Guide to Europe, points out in his roundup of seemingly odd European festivals: "Many of the festivals a tourist can attend and participate in seem quite bizarre when taken out of context..." but there are, of course, meanings and traditions behind even (or especially) the most outlandish-seeming celebration or commemoration.
