New long haul low fare carrier Oasis Air, launched as planned in October, gave us a great surprise when we checked in to see how budget Oasis Air stacks up against a student airfare this month: we saw a hot deal of $271.03 one way, with taxes and plus plus included, for a London-Hong Kong airfare...

• Oasis Air November 23 and 25: $271.03 ($143 plus plus $127.55); also available November 25: $424.09 ($296.54 plus plus $127.55)

You can't get a student airfare from London to Hong Kong. You can, however, fly from New York to Hong Kong from under $500 with a student airfare -- but you can't stop in London for a day or two; if that's your plan, check out Oasis Air.

Though Oasis Air will eventually be flying out of Chicago and San Francisco, you can only catch the long-haul budget carrier out of London's Gatwick for now. That means you must decide whether savings work after you find a USA-UK fare and get to London's Gatwick airport from international Heathrow, where you're likely to land on flights from the US.

And if you're already in Europe and headed to Hong Kong, you can use a cheap European airline to get to London and grab one of these cheap Oasis fares. Once you're in Hong Kong, find the great Asia air deals with budget air carriers to get to places like Singapore or Bangkok. The deals are good for travel through December 14 if you book by November 30. And FYI -- the Oasis Air booking site's got a checkbox indicating student status, but it doesn't seem to improve the savings scene.
