Expedited Passport Fee Refunds Available

Saturday June 16, 2007
The US government is apparently continuing to try to compensate inconvenienced US citizens for this year's passport mess: first, by waiving passport requirements for some, and now by offering refunds to those who paid extra bucks for expedited passports that weren't.

According to the US Department of State, if you (1) paid the government's fee (to the government) for expedited service, and (2) feel that you didn't get expedited service, you can contact the Dep't of State at:

    Department of State
    Passport Services/PPS/Refunds
    2100 Pennsylvania Ave NW
    Washington, DC 20037-3202

Request that the Department consider, which will happen on a case-by-case basis, a refund of the fee. In your letter, include these things:

  • A written request with your passport number, if you have it
  • Your name, date and place of your birth and approximate date(s) you applied for a passport and/or received your passport (if applicable)
  • Mailing address and phone number

Note that the Department won't refund passport application and execution fees or compensate you any money for missed travel. Learn more:
