If you Google hostels, chances are you'll come across Hostelworld -- this mammoth hostel booking site is the biggest on the planet. Biggest doesn't always necessarily mean best, but this outfit's sheerly superior size helps them offer other excellent services on the Hostelworld website, too, like mini city guides. Some in the hostel booking industry say Hostelworld's user-written reviews aren't really, but are placed by shills for the hostels. Take that with a grain of salt, but do take it.

Hostelworld hosts some serious fun for the hostel world each year with a best-of list in an award ceremony cutely called the "Hoscars"... 1,000,000 hostel-hopping folk award ten international hostels top dog status based on character, security, location, staff, fun and cleanliness, according to Hostelworld.com's Hoscar hostel ranking criteria.
