180 Acts, Seven Stages, Eight Days
The Roskilde Festival kicks off July 2, 2009, in Roskilde, Denmark (warmups start June 28) with music from Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds,Coldplay, Oasis, Faith No More, Nine Inch Nails, Pet Shop Boys (that's a blast from the past thing), Kanye West, Peter Doherty, And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, First Aid Kit, Hauschka, Im From Barcelona, The Whitest Boys Alive and oh-so-many more. Tickets are 240 euros -- not bad for parking, camping, luggage storage, 180 acts and a gazillion activities.
There's much to do at the Roskilde Festival besides the massive music festival: a cool thing this year will be Danish superstar Rune Glifberg's skate show -- a great team of pro skateboarders will run on a piece of the city and do some serious vert. And the camping is its own party; you can even rent a tent if you ask early. And speaking of early, you can get into the Roskilde Festival's camping area early if you participate in their "Green Footsteps" eco program.
Get thee to Denmark!
