Everything from metal bands to Scandinavian punk takes center stage for this mega world party featuring four days of music and art and nine days of camping -- not to mention 90,000 partiers. What you need to know about the Roskilde Festival 2012:

200 Acts, Seven Stages, Nine Days

The Roskilde Festival kicks off July 5, 2012, in Roskilde, Denmark (warmups start June 30) with music scheduled so far from Bjork, Bon Iver, The Cure, Mew, The Roots, Jack White, Apparatjik, and, wildly enough, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Tickets are 240 euros -- not bad for parking, camping, luggage storage, massive music and a gazillion activities like interactive installations; you can also buy a one-day ticket for one of the four music days.

There's much to do at the Roskilde Festival besides the massive music festival: a cool thing this year will be Improv Everywhere, an American performance art crew with a slogan of "We Cause Scenes." And the camping is its own party and performance art of a sort; you can even rent a tent package if you ask early. And speaking of early, you can get into the Roskilde Festival's camping area early if you volunteer by April (too late now, but try again in 2013!).

Get thee to Denmark!
