WHAT - Win Travel:
Big opportunity for a big trip! Student travel agency STA has opened its annual contest offering two winners an all-expenses paid student travel experience worldwide -- and that's a lot of expenses -- while describing it all via blogs, vids, and more (the "intern" part means your work will be encouraging other students to travel, too, as STA is a student travel agency); all the finalists in this travel contest get a lot of love, too (more below).
WHERE: Sixteen Countries:
Destinations in 2011 are Western and Eastern Europe, Nepal, China, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina and Brazil. Can you go there? Yeah, so could we. We have, in fact, and we promise you're headed to some of the most interesting places on the planet. And even if you've been there, here or everywhere, you probably haven't done it for free, not to mention in a guided fashion (who could afford that planning level?). Want to? Well, make a vid and get ready to win some travel, then.
WHY: Inspire Wannabe Travelers:
Inspire, excite and incite aspiring student travelers just like you to do just like you with your wonderful words, photos and video of the big wide world awaiting: STA will be publishing your ongoing record of your journey, every interesting step of the way.
WITH WHOM: Mysterious Strangers:
You and another not-so-random lucky stiff will be traveling together (interesting, huh?). And amazingly, you'll be doing that even as a finalist, not just as a winner (more on that below).
WHY YOU? Because You're:
- Passionate about travel.
- A competent and creative communicator -- great writing and yakking skills.
- Gigronnously gregarious.
- A clever capturer of images: you know your way, like really well, around a video and still camera.
- Mac savvy, and completely capable of coping with photo and video editing software.
- Fit, and can kayak, hike, bike, and the like.
- Between the ages of 18-26.
- The possessor of a valid U.S. passport.
Enter STA's "World Traveler Intern" contest by February 25, 2011, to embark on the first of five (count 'em!) rounds: create a profile and make a video showcasing your perfect fitness for the project. The top 50 will then submit a resume and sample blog, and the 20 best will be interviewed starting March 16. From there, it gets fun: eight finalists will all travel to and around Europe and film final application videos in randomly chosen pairs, with the help of a past World Traveler Intern. The two best finalists from those eight will be chosen on May 13 as the 2011 World Traveler Interns.
