Documents You Will Need

  • Carry your insurance card. If you're covered by your parents' insurance cards, ask Mom or Dad to talk to the company issuing the policy and inquire whether you'll need additional medical insurance coverage overseas. You may want to look into an additional (or sole) policy; check with these companies:

    Keep and Make Copies of Travel Documents

    Email yourself important travel document copies, and leave a copy with your parents or a teacher stateside. If you lose your passport, visa, airline tickets, credit / debit cards or driver's license, you can download copies and simplify replacement rigamarole.

    Keep your documents together (and apart from copies) in a handy holder, like a many-pocketed passport organizer.

    How to Handle Money Overseas

    A debit card will be your best friend while you''re traveling and studying abroad. You may also want to get a currency calculator to help you understand the money in your host country.
