Travel Aggregators - Multiple Travel Search Engines Together

Using Travel Search Engines, or Aggregators

Aggregators are handy tools that pack a lot of travel search engine punch. Rather than trying to find travel search engine sites and then leaping from one to another, use an aggregator, like Kayak, to search for discount airfare, hotel, car, packages and even cruise prices.

Because students are a special fare class unto themselves, you'll often find the cheapest airfare using an online student travel agency's search -- student airfare finders like STA Travel may beat the best prices aggregators can find, as the aggregator is searching "regular" fares. It's always a good idea to check a student travel agency's airfare price against the price found by an aggregator, though.

Let's look at Kayak and Booking Buddy, two ways to search multiple travel sites using one aggregator.

About Kayak

Enter your information once and Kayak searches over 100 travel sites (more than 550 airlines and 85,000 hotels), like these:

  • 800CheapSeats
  • Airfare.com
  • AirTran Airways
  • Alaska Airlines
  • America West Airlines
  • American Airlines
  • AOL CityGuide
  • Budget Rent A Car
  • Continental Airlines
  • Delta Air Lines
  • discountvacation.com
  • Epinions
  • Fodor's
  • Frommer's
  • Frontier Airlines
  • Funjet Vacations
  • Gayot
  • Hawaiian Airlines
  • Hotwire.com
  • IgoUgo
  • Independence Air
  • JetAway.com
  • JetBlue Airways
  • LastMinuteTravel.com
  • Midwest Airlines
  • New York Metro
  • Northwest Airlines
  • OneTravel.com
  • Smarter Travel
  • United Airlines
  • US Airways
  • Vacation Outlet

Kayak Buzz

Kayak also offers offers a fun feature: Kayak Buzz. Using Buzz, you can see what other people have recently paid for a particular flight -- searching airfares using an aggregator normally only shows you what you might be about to pay.

You can type in variables for a Buzz search or, because Kayak Buzz is based on Google mapping, you're also able to click on a map graphic to check other folks' recent ticket purchase prices for the trip you want to take.

About Booking Buddy

Booking Buddy pulls together 29 aggregators, like Kayak, on one page. You must choose which aggregator you want to use for your travel search and then return to Booking Buddy to search another aggregator, but it's very nice to have all of 'em in one place. A few of the Booking Buddy choices:

  • Travelocity
  • Kayak.com
  • United.com
  • Priceline.com
  • Orbitz
  • lowestfare.com
  • 1800CheapSeats
  • CheapTickets.com
  • TravelGrove
  • CheapAir
  • Cheapseats
  • Expedia
  • Hotwire
  • LastMinuteTravel.com
  • Mobissimo
  • Qixo
  • SideStep
  • TravelJungle
  • TravelNow
  • Yahoo FareChase

Super simple fare searching!

"Travel does what good novelists also do to the life of everyday, placing it like a picture in a frame or a gem in its setting, so that the intrinsic qualities are made more clear. Travel does this with the very stuff that everyday life is made of, giving to it the sharp contour and meaning of art."
