In 1992, important amendments were made to to the Higher Education Act of 1965, which essentially provide that you can receive study abroad financial aid for study abroad -- in other words, study abroad financial aid -- provided these criteria are met:
- You're in a study abroad program approved by or affiliated with (like a sister school abroad) your home institution (college or university) -- that means that if your school will pre-approve the study abroad credits, Uncle Sam says you can use his dough to pay for them,and getting them
- You would be eligible for government financial aid whether or not the study abroad program in which you're enrolled or want to enroll is required for your degree.
Financial aid can cover most of the costs for your study abroad, including transportation to and from the country in which you want to study, tutition and more (even passport fees!). Read more:
