Internet Superheroes Coming to Phone Booths Near You

Internet phone booths are dotting Europe these days, some with mobile connections -- internet street kiosks with a real phone, a screen, trackball and keyboard and wifi connectivity are everywhere in London and Aberdeen, Amsterdam, Berlin and Dublin are jumping on the internet phone booth fad, too.

In London, handy but spendy internet phone booths are found on busy streets and cost four GBP (about $7) an hour in spring 2006. Internet phone booths in front of favorite wallet-drainer Top Shop (photo at right) are certainly convenient -- check your bank balance online before you shop. I used an internet phone booth to look up a hostel address in London -- cost a pound for 15 minutes of internet time and was worth not getting lost, and I checked my email with my remaining internet time.
