Sanuk Chica Flip Flops Review

Sanuk Chica Flip Flops (Toe Closeup)

The Bottom Line

A deceptively simple look characterizes the Chica, feature-ful flip flops from Sanuk: anatomical design makes feet feel fine. Good-looking strap raises these flip flops to shoe style status. A great walking sandal. (Footbed available in men's and women's styles.)

  • Comfortable for long hauls
  • Sharp enough for khakis

Cons

  • A tiny tad wide

Description

  • Super wide footbed.
  • "Toe bar" creates comfy toe keeper.
  • Arch support sweetens the stroll.
  • Very slightly raised heel.
  • Available in white and chocolate.
  • Sizes (women's): 6-10.

Guide Review - Sanuk Walking Flip Flops

I wonder if a backpacker came up with the idea for the Sanuk Chica / Lazy flip flops. Somebody who spent considerable time hoofing it had a design say, anyway. I could wear these flip flops across continents.

I first tried the Sanuk Chica flip flops on a Mexico party cruise. What a waste (the venue choice, not the cruisers) -- I'd rather save every square millimeter of the Chica's rubber for long-term travel walking. They're that comfortable.

A wide footbed, dubbed the Lazy Girl by Sanuk (men have the Lazy Boy, natch) keeps your feet centered (I hate it when I fall off my flaps), and an extra-wide cushioned strap stops the blister-raising rubbing so many sandals create. The Tatami strap is understatedly styly, too. (Since you now need to know, "tatami" means a rush-covered straw mat constituting Japanese flooring.)

I suppose I'm being a schizo sandal wearer when I say I love/hate the wide footbed. Yeah, it's comfortable for the long walk, but it's just so... wide.

Another tidbit for enquiring minds: Sanuk means "happy" in Thai. Tuck a pair of Chica flip flops in your backpack and your happy feet will thank you.

Oh -- and for that Mexico party cruise? Try the Sanuk Bueno or Poncha (Guatemalan fabric wrapped flip flops).
