Guadalajara's Hostel de Maria is not a party place -- that's the Guadalajara hostel a few blocks away. At the Hostel de Maria, an interior gate and the front door lock at night, and the friendly night clerk stays the night in the office adjacent to the front desk (pictured).
Behind the front desk is the hostel's television lounge, where guests can relax at tables (and pick up the free wifi); out the front door is a small plaza and just up the street are a couple of very good restaurants and beer joints.
