- A statue of Bishop Vasco de Qurioga, a respected Catholic who came to town in 1536, dominates the wonderful main square in colonial Patzcuaro, about 30 minutes south of Morelia and four hours north of coastal Ixtapa. The Mexico state of Michoacan holds many treasures, and lovely Patzcuaro is among native Mexican traveler's favorites.
- I took this photo on the last morning of a trip which had included beach time in Zihuatanejo and a hilly loop through Paracho, guitar-maker center near inland Patzcuaro. Practicing brass bands had wakened me early in Patzcuaro's gorgeous Mansion de Iturbe hotel, and the view from the balcony at dawn had showed a gathering typical for any Mexico day -- people and music.
