Keep Your Valuables dry

SealPak by Cascade Designs

The Bottom Line

Walkbout Travel Gear says of the SealPak: "A must carry item if you're going to get wet." I agree; the SealPak is a great tool for water adventure. It's a perennial problem - you're at the beach and need money for food and drink, but you can't leave your valuables unguarded on the sand while you take the plunge. The SealPak solves that - put your valuables inside this waterproof fanny pack and dive in!
Pros
  • Excellent, sturdy construction.
Cons
  • It's a little bulky, especially if you only need to carry money.

Description

  • Great value for the money.
  • 8x7 inches with a stretch belt.
  • Weighs 5 ounces.
  • Constructed of rugged urethane coated nylon with welded seams and roll-down closure.
  • Has a handy outside mesh pocket.
  • Versatile; can be used as your only fanny pack although the waterproof nylon doesn't breathe.

Guide Review - SealPak - Keep Your Valuables and Money Dry

The Sealpak, made by Cascade Designs, is a waterproof hip pack designed to carry your stuff into the water with you. I find it very useful while snorkeling, rafting or canoeing. Though I don't kayak or windsurf, it's an obvious plus for those sports, as well. I keep money, keys, sunglasses and a small camera (usually waterproof) inside. It has an outside mesh pocket, but I keep things I can afford to lose in the water, like sunscreen, in that pocket as I'm not quite confident that the pocket is completely secure. If I'm traveling alone with just a backpack which I have to leave on the beach, I keep my wallet and copies of valuable papers (like my passport) in the Sealpak in case my backpack is stolen while I'm underwater.

The SealPak is a godsend if you have a hotel room and can then just use the SealPak to carry money for food or drink and your phrase book down to the beach. Pay for a cold beverage and hit the water - warm up in the sun afterward with some local delicacies - always with your money on your person.

My recommendation - it's not an essential, but it's a cool luxury. You can justify buying one by planning to wear it on the plane with your journal, tickets and itineraries in it.
