Pickpocketed

A recent TripAdvisor survey addressing pickpocketing as a travel problem caught our eye recently and, as we always kinda suspect, it's not really a big problem -- out of 1260 people surveyed, 12 percent had been pickpocketed, and 70 percent had not been pickpocketed, seen a pickpocketing, nor had a travel companion get pickpocketed.

More on our thoughts on that below. In the meantime, where in the world did the folks taking the TripAdvisor survey feel pickpocketing was most prevalent? Check out the TripAdvisor list online in detail or below in short, and then add your own thoughts:

    1. Las Ramblas: Barcelona, Spain
    2. Rome, Italy
    3. Prague, Czech Republic
    4. Madrid, Spain
    5. Paris, France
    6. Florence, Italy
    7. Buenos Aires, Argentina
    8. Amsterdam, Netherlands
    9. Athens, Greece
    10. Hanoi, Vietnam

So, back to the problem... if you're in that 12 pickpocketed percent, it's a pretty big deal -- and some pretty simple precautions will help. Number one, take the same steps to avoid being stolen from when traveling that you would at home-- being away can make us tend to toss those cares aside with all the others, but we still need to carry our money wisely, stashing travel cashif necessary.
