Question: What is VoIP?
Answer: VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol, is a means of using the internet to make phone calls, sometimes even free internet phone calls. The Internet is the transmitter, and the internet phone calls can be made to another computer with VoIP capability (like one set up with the right software, like Skype) or to regular landline phones or cell phones. VoIP is your ticket to communication with parents, friends and the bank when you're traveling -- forget even trying to use your Verizon or other US based call phone overseas unless you've got a whole lotta cash you don't mind wasting; US cell phone companies refuse to provide unlocked GSM phones for the most part, and the phone calls are ridiculously expensive from a locked GSM phone, which is largely what you'll get if you buy a US GSM phone.
