"Dear Campus Community,
In light of recent escalating violence in border towns along the US/Mexico border, the *** Office of Environmental Health and Safety issues this warning to all *** students, faculty, and staff who plan to travel into Mexico over spring break.
"This violence has been directed towards civilians as well as Mexican police and military personnel as the Mexican drug cartels have declared war on any attempts to stop their product from moving into the US.
"Travel into Mexico, especially by automobile, is discouraged at this time due to heightened concerns of violence from the border towns spreading further inland. If you still plan to travel within the country, flying to your destination is recommended to avoid automobile travel through the border towns and along drug supply routes.
"Similar warnings have been issued by many colleges and universities throughout the US.
"The US State Department has a current warning, updated on 2/20/09, for Mexico travel posted on their website: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/pa/pa_1766.html. We encourage anyone contemplating travel into Mexico to read this alert prior to your travel."
