Fill the Credit Card Pockets

So far, you've filled a brand new travel bag with some terrific travel clothing and a great women's travel book -- the travel gift set you're making is coming along! Let's keep going by filling a couple of those credit card pockets: a debit card for your student traveler or a phone card for your peace of mind.

The Thought Counts, but Money Matters

Debit cards are indispensable as emergency cash precautions. Set up an account for your student traveler in your name and his/hers, and get a debit card in his/her name. Deposit as little as $25 for a splurge on lunch in a French cafe, or much more for an emergency plane ticket home. You can always deposit more money while your student is out on the road. Print out this ATM / debit card FAQ, wrap it around a debit card and tuck it all into one of the bag's credit card pockets.

Let 'em Phone Home

With a prepaid international calling card, your student traveler can call home in an emergency. A GSM phone is a better idea for a roaming student's long term phone needs, but an emergency phone backup plan is always good. Minutes available for the money you spend on a prepaid international phone card will vary wildly, but with an international calling card tucked in a wallet, a traveler always has at least a few minutes of phone time. Cards available for calling from many countries; check it out:

Speaking of GSM phones, the bag you bought for your women's travel gift set has a cell phone pocket. Let's fill that...Go to the next step.
