The Bottom Line
Wake Up Sydney is a ginormous hostel very close to Sydney Central train station and part of a mega hostel triangle -- YHA has two hostels in the neighborhood, too. A Global Gossip communication shop and several backpacker travel businesses nearby make this neck of Sydney a good hang for travelers -- you're bound to meet some folks. It's clean, comfy, good value and a mirror in many ways of the Wake Up London. Check out some photos or read more below.

Guide Review - Wake Up Sydney Hostel - Sydney, Australia
Hostels in the part of Sydney called "Central" are a good place to base because it's safe, packed with backpackers, and the Central train station is nearby -- makes it a snap to see the sights, hop to clubs or get outta town (and find someone to hang with). Of the three hostels we like located near the train station, the Wake Up Sydney is the biggest, though the YHA Sydney Central hostel is also huge and YHA's Railway Square is a few steps closer to the train station (can matter if you're hauling tons o' stuff).
Plenty of amenities, including TV room, attached coffee shoplet, internet access (spendy, as is always an issue in Australia), travel desk, and a bar. Global Gossip communication cafe across the street with internet computer banks, phones and mailing service.
