The Bottom Line

The YHA Sydney Central hostel is a dyno place to hang your backpack in a triangle of mega hostels near the Sydney Central train station that includes the Wake Up Sydney and the YHA Railway Square. A sweet swimming pool and decks rule from the roof, travel desks abound, and lots o'comfy common areas, a real dining room and a real smoking area (that's not on the roof) round out this giant joint. Check out some photos or read more about the YHA Sydney Central hostel below.

Guide Review - YHA Sydney Central Hostel - Sydney, Australia

Central Sydney is a good place to base because the train station is nearby -- makes it a snap to see the sights, hop to clubs or get outta town. Hard to say which is the best of the three hostels we like located near the Central train station: the YHA (Youth Hostels Australia) Railway Square hostel is the quietest, as well as closest to the train station but the big Wake Up Sydney is just steps further while having a far different party scene. The YHA Sydney Central, though, might be the one to recommend to a friend -- it pretty much has it all and, with 500+ rooms, has room for all.

Lots of amenities, as always in a YHA -- travel desk, TV room and (spendy) internet availability (Global Gossip communications cafe a few doors down, too), cool cafe and bar onsite, and convenience store very near. Fantastic common areas and clean, clean laundry. The to-rave-for part is probably the rooftop-ruling swimming pool and decks -- birds-eye view barbecue area and sauna up top, too. We'd give this place 4.5 stars out of 5 if we could get the wifi.
