News flash Tour de France 7/2/2005: Armstrong, now in second place, trounced Ullrich, now in 12th place, by 66 decisive seconds in the first stage. "I would have liked to have had the (yellow leader's) jersey today," Amstrong says. "I was hungry today. I didn't want to ride a retirement race, I wanted to win." Failue to clamp into a pedal near the start may have cost Armstrong the win by two seconds.
News flash Tour de France 7/4/2005: Australian and top sprinter Robbie McEwen is furious with Tour de France race officials after being disqualified from Stage Three. The race jury reviewed the sprint's film footage and decided McEwan was leaning on Cofidis's Stuart O'Grady at race's end. McEwan defended his action, saying he had to lean on O'Grady's arm to keep from falling...but Phil Liggett said McEwan's move wasn't "...very nice".
News flash Tour de France 7/5/2005: In a heartbreaking setback for Tour de France leader David Zabriskie, a bloody crash tore the yellow jersey from his shoulders 1.5 km from the finish of Stage Five and may have cost his team, CSC, the three seconds needed for the stage win, which was taken by Team Discovery (now in first place overall). Lance Armstrong has donned the yellow leader's jersey and is out in front by two seconds.
News flash Tour de France 7/8/2005: Australian Robbie McEwan takes the stage in a wild sprint that saw Issac Galvez go down after Alan Davis (LSG) crossed his wheel near the finish - Angel Furlan (DOM) also hit the pavement. Armstrong safe in the maillot jeune with teammate George Hincapie trailing by 55 seconds; Alexendre Vinokourov of T-Mobile remains a remote but potent threat in third but off the back by one minute two seconds.
News flash Tour de France 7/9/2005: Dutchman Peter Weening took today's stage in a photo finish over Andreas Klöden; the Discovery team was blown apart (is the peloton allying to topple Armstrong?) but Armstrong stays in yellow followed by Jens Voight (one minute) and Alexandre Vinokourov (one minute two seconds). "He (Armstrong) can't ride behind the three of us," Vinokourov says of himself and T-Mobile mates Klöden and Ullrich. "Yeah, tomorrow we'll try and attack."
News Flash Tour de France 7/10/2005: Rasmussen takes the Stage Nine win followed by Moreau and Jens Voight, who dons the yellow jersey. Armstrong can now relax a bit in third place and prep for the mountains, where he seems confident that he'll triumph as always - the cocky T-Mobile boys are still a long way from the Champs de Elysees.
Stage Ten Results Tour de France 7/12/2005: Armstrong puts the hammer down and takes back the yellow jersey and holds an overall 38 second lead after a close second to Alejandro Valverde. Ullrich loses two minutes 14 seconds and Vinokourov five minutes and 18 seconds in a sensational stage.
Stage 11 Results Tour de France 7/13/2005: Vinokourov takes the stage and moves up to 12th overall; Armstrong remains in first with a 38 second lead over Rasmussen and two minutes 34 seconds over Moreau. "It might be difficult to stop Armstrong now, but we (team T-Mobile) still have three difficult days in the Pyrenees," Vinokourov told Eurosport.com. "Anything can happen."
