In the wake of the January 12, 2010, earthquake in Haiti, pleas are going out for relief: you can donate to Haiti relief efforts by finding charitable organizations which have been working in Haiti long ere the Haiti earthquake and already have mechanisms in place to provide relief to earthquake victims, like Partners in Health (below), as well as donating to charities like the American Red Cross which are releasing aid money to Haiti. Keep reading for a list of Haiti relief charities and organizations to which you can donate money (you probably can't donate time yet):
Charity Navigator
Vet charity organizations through Charity Navigator; scams will spring up, and you do want to know that your money is going to an organization which will spend the majority of it on Haitians. The list of charities to which we're donating begin below (with Partners in Health) and at the end of this list, you can also suggest a charity...Partners in Health

The Association Haitienne de Développement Humain/Haitian Association for Human Development, Inc. (AHDH), a great group of volunteers headed up by Haitian-born Dr. Charles Rene, has made 45 trips to Haiti, and plans an immediate humanitarian trip in addition to its regular winter medical mission (scheduled for February 2010). AHDH's Hospital St. Joseph Codeva in La Vallee de Jacmel (built in coordination with Haitian non-governmental organization CODEVA [Coude-a-Coude pour le Dévelopement Valleen] and its US-based sister organization, Fraternite Valleenne) is intact and stocked with surgical supplies.
