Do NOT tip in Australia
- Tipping is not a practice undertaken in Australia. You are charged by the business for 100% of the cost of the goods or service you are purchasing, and no more is expected. If you leave tips in a jar (for example, in a cafe) then this goes to the business, not the workers. If you leave tips on a table, then it goes to the person who next walks past the table and sees somebody has been foolish enough to leave money lying on it. Tipping in Australia is only a good idea when the service recieved absolutely stuns you, such that you feel you have not paid enough. As a general rule, tipping somebody directly is a degrading practice and implies a socioeconomic gap. We do, however, allow people to "keep the change" from time to time, and this is notably the case with taxi drivers.

Tipping in Australia
- Its is not customary to tip in Australia, as the servers make a lot more money than you would think. In Australia we do not have a tipping culture so I usually only tip very little (for a meal if its $28 I'll round up to $30), plus servers don't really expect much anyway. In regards to tipping in North America, the way I see it, I know the servers don't get paid much, but I don't feel like its the consumers job to tip to pay their wage. Isn't the whole idea of employment that you get paid to do a job? I now live in Canada and tipping is so foreign to me. How come you tip when you go to a bar and someone pours you a beer, but you dont tip when you go to a ice-cream shop and someone scoops you an ice-cream? Its basically the same amount of effort and similar service. It doesn't make sense to me!

No need to tip
- We don't tip in Australia. You can if you would really like to but I don't see the point, as the service provider would never expect you to tip. I know what you mean about Aussies being bad/good tippers. I didn't know how much to tip and ended up tipping 60% for a haircut.

Do Australians tip in Australia?
- My boyfriend drives a local taxi here in a ski resort town in california and he said Australian tourists are the absolute worst tippers of anyone from any country to the shuttle and taxi drivers, so he thinks they must not have to tip taxi drivers in Australia. Does anyone know?

Not much
- Australian food and drink are pretty expensive already because the servers actually make a living wage so it isn't needed to tip the servers but you can. same with cab drivers. i don't tip in australia generally. i have never gotten better or worse service if i do tip or i don't tip, everyone is generally pretty friendly.
