It's a gift
- Whenever one tips, it is a gift. A gift should always be given from the heart, and because that is what you want to do. If you feel forced to give a gift, then you can opt not to be persuaded to do so. Personally, I like to tip everyone. They are all trying to make a good living, and if I can afford their services, I can probably afford to tip them a little bit - or a lot, depending on the quality of that service. Tip jars are o.k. They remind us when we might otherwise forget. Remembering that we are not required to tip, but that we have the opportunity to tip might give ours brains that paradigm shift we need to persuade us to be as generous as we can afford to be. If you have ever worked where you have been on the receiving end of tips, you know how precious they are to those who receive them.

tip jars are crazy!
- what is up with tip jars everywhere? i read the article about tip jars at the grocery store check out, i would freak out if i saw that. i go to safeway for my starbuck's because they can't accept tips and don't have a tip jar out. i know that baristas at starbucks make like $9 an hour and some get benefits. why should i have to tip them? and why is there a tip jar out at places where you order and pick up at the counter? if you need to get tipped (according to the logic of a tip jar at the counter) to do the job well, then next there will be tip jars at the car mechanic garage. DOWN WITH TIP JARS!

tipping is out of hand
- it seems like we have to tip everybody these days. i don't want to tip the hotel maid. she already gets a living wage. if she wants more, she should get a better job. it is not my job to pay her, i already paid for my hotel room. i do tip 15-20% in restaurants because of our dumb system where we have to pay servers instead of the owner paying servers. are you telling me olive garden cant afford to pay servers a living wage. i tip cab drivers 10% or less, less if they don't speak english.
